Short nonstop flight to the Azores. We visited two islands: São Miguel and Faial.

Flew into the capital city of Ponta Delgada on the main island of São Miguel. With our rental car we visited most of the island. 

Highlights included:  hiking the rim trail atop Cete Cidades - a volcanic crater; Furnas, a lush village with thermal pools; and ate Cozido das Furnas—a traditional meat and vegetable stew slow-cooked underground for about 6 hours—out of the volcanic heat. On the isle of Faial we saw the "buried lighthouse" Farol dos Capelinhos.
